Potato Gratin with bacon

There’s something timeless about a good baked dish—warm, hearty, and bubbling with flavor. This is the kind of recipe that feels like a warm hug on a cold evening. It’s simple, satisfying, and built from pantry staples you likely already have on hand.

At its heart, this dish is a celebration of layering. Thin slices of potatoes, carrots, and onions are nestled together with smoky bacon and smothered in seasoned cream, creating a medley of textures and flavors that bake into golden perfection. It’s humble in ingredients, but rich in comfort.

Ingredients

  • 300ml thickened cream

  • 1 Carrot

  • 4 Potatoes, cut into 2mm-thick slices

  • 3 small to medium onions

  • 1/2 cup grated Cheese

  • 1/2 cup of Bacon

  • 1 tsp of Salt

  • 1 tsp of Pepper

  • 1 tsp of parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180C. Grease a baking dish.

  2. Combine the cream, salt, pepper and parsley.

  3. Chop all the vegetables to an even 2mm thick slices leave in piles and try not to mix yet.

  4. place a small amount of cheese to the bottom of the baking dish

  5. carefully place in order, potato, carrot, onion, bacon in a row until dish is filled. Watch the video for an example.

  6. Gently pour over the cream mix, tapping the try to allow it to move through the vegetables

  7. Place a some cheese on top. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until tender and golden.
